I am a 16yr old sophomore and I run about a 6:30-6:45 mile and I have never really ran much. I'm running cross-country my junior year(next year) and I want my time to be at least 6:00 before June and at least 5:15-5:30 by the end of this summer.

  1. Basically, interval training. Run at your normal pace for a bit, then run faster for 100-200 yards, then back to normal. Do this a few times during your run. This gets you used to a faster pace in small intervals. Slowly, you increase your intervals, or your speed, until you can run a full mile at the faster pace. This is simplified, but it seems to work in running, cycling, and other endurance sports.

  2. you should check out runnersworld.com it has schedules for speeding your running up! :) Good Luck!
