  1. Convincing your mother will be very difficult. My mother is the same. She is dead against bikes.

The problem is there is little or nothing you can do to convince her simply because bikes are dangerous. If you check out the statistics online, they rate as one of the most dangerous forms of transport around.

Saying you know lots of people who ride them safely won't work either.

I had to wait until I left home before I could get one, and just to make sure I have not told my mother about it. I live 70 miles away so I can do that.

I know for experience that if I told my mother about the bike, it would be a constant drip of negativity until I got rid of it. There is no way she would change her mind and would use everything in her arsenal (guilt, nagging, etc) on me until I got rid of it.

You are in a catch 22 situation. If you tell her you intend on getting one, then she will do her best to talk you out of it and you will be tormented.

If you go behind her back and get one, then when she finds out she will say you don't deserve one as you were immature as you did not tell her about it.

I'm afraid there is little you can do. If you really want to get one when you are old enough, perhaps she will have come round. You have a few years yet.

Getting a dirtbike may be an acceptable compromise in the meantime. Just don't let her see or hear you crashing it. If she thinks you are safe on that then perhaps she will relent when you want to get one for the street.

  2. Best way to impress a mom is to do your research. Learn the in's and out's of the motorcycle. Show her that you are a responsible and sensible person. Give her all the information on safety gear, riding schools, etc. and show her that you are taking this seriously. That may help you. Maybe think about getting a job and offer to help pay for things like gas, maintainence, insurance, etc.

If that doesn't work, wait til your 18, move out, get a job and buy your own. (MY mom was stubborn as h**l about bikes) Did that, became a semi-professional racer, got a great job in the industry and ride as much as I can whenever I can.

Don't ever let your dream die!

Goodluck buddy! Hope to see you out there!

  3. wait until you're 18 then if you still want one get one... you probably don't realize that your mom has good reason to not like motorcycles, a lot of people are killed in motorcycle wrecks, cars don't see you as well, etc....it's especially not a good idea for a 14 year old to drive one. sorry

  4. Your mom can't "get you" a motorcycle licence.  You have to take the test yourself to get a motorcycle licence.

  5. you can't..you're 14

  6. I know you have to be at least 16 in washington to go through the MSF course, but you can take a Dirtbike class where the age range is 6 yrs old and up. This will help you prepare for an actual motorcycle. You don't even need a permit. In two years, you take the MSF course and pass, BAM! you got your endorsement. Hope this helps.

  7. you can't...you can get a perm. when you're 16....then get a real lic. when you're 18....

  8. Might want to wait till your old enough.

  9. Where do you live?  Most states, if not all, you can't have a motorcycle endorsement until your are old enough to have a driver's license, which is typically 16!  When you turn 16, you can get an endorsement without her even knowing because it is YOUR license.  You can start out with a permit as well.  I have heard, but am not sure, that even large scooters, in California, do not require a license to operate (such as a Piaggio MP3, but I don't live there and could be wrong.  If you want a proper motorcycle,  you will need to wait like the rest of us did.  You can start out on dirt bikes,  you just can not take them off road.  Will state that I do not condone dishonoring your mother or father, but that is your business.
