  1. Sometimes, there is a pet that you really want and you will do anything to get it, but your parents won't cooperate. Sometimes you get lucky and they eventually let you get it without too much fuss, but sometimes they just get stubborn.

    1. Do your research first. When you go to the library, get books. At home, read or research on the computer. Even go ask friends who own or have previously owned the pet about how to care for it (if the opportunity comes along, take care of it for them while they're on vacation.) .Research the pet in question in great detail before you even approach your parents, so you know all of the facts. If you find out something about the pet that you don't like, e.g. eats live food, lives for 30 years, needs lots of outdoor space, then don't hesitate to check out other similar animals to find the perfect pet for you.

    2. Make sure to check into state laws if you are considering an exotic pet. For example, it is illegal to keep a skunk as a pet in Tennessee, so even though you may be able to buy one or might know someone who has one, it's probably not a good idea.

    3. When you know what you want and have all

of the facts, approach your parents. In a calm, diplomatic way tell them about the animal, and tell them some important facts about it. When you are done, they will most likely ask you some questions. Answer them honestly, being sure to suggest solutions to any problems they see. If they say yes, then yippee! You probably don't need to read any more. If they say no, ask them to just think about it.

    4. Keep researching! When you find out new, interesting facts, be sure to tell your parents, to keep the subject in the back of everyone's mind. Never mention the desire you have or say 'wink wink' or 'hint hint'. However, if they get mad and tell you to stop, stay low on the subject and keep your mouth shut for a few days.

    5. With your information, make a care chart for the animal, with categories listing what care they need daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, etc... Show this to your parents. This tells them that you are willing to do the work, and you're not letting go easily. If they seem hesitant, ask them what problems they have with you getting the pet. Answer honestly, and show them that you are responsible and willing to see all sides of an issue, even if you don't want to.

    6. Just keep this up for as long as it takes for them to give in, or for you to get tired of the pet. This generally works for me (unless my parents have a really solid, impossible-to-get-around reason why not). Good luck!

    * Never, ever shout or whine. This shows your parents that you are too immature to care for a pet.

    * Make sure that you see their side of the story, and try to convince them why your side is better!

    * If you are really motivated, you can write a persuasive essay outlining all of your reasoning. This really impresses parents.

    * If you have done anything good like good grades or helping around the house make sure to mention that as a plus!

    * Sometimes your parents get really annoyed, so stop asking and continue to tell them about this animal and start showing how responsible you are. After awhile, ask them again.

    * You could always try asking for a pet on your birthday since it is *YOUR* birthday. Ask them gently and like mentioned before, don't forget to add in a few great things about the pet!

    * You could always try asking for Christmas!!!! Ask calm and mention it a couple times that you want it for Christmas.

    * Parents often don't let their children have pets because they're worried that they, the parents, will end up taking care of it. Make sure you let them know that you intend to take responsibility for it and won't leave all the cleaning and feeding up to them.

    * Acting mature and helping out around the house will help this shows that you are mature enough like doing the washing, keeping the house clean etc.

  2. Pets take a lot of money and alot of responsibility.  Go to the pound and/or check the paper for free pets.  Maybe you could volunteer at your local pound to learn more about the pets and to show your parents how responsible you can be.

  3. Having a pet is a big responsibility. You have to get the pet a medical shot, you have to get pet insurance, you have to buy pet food, you have to be compatible with the pet, you have to have time for the pet. So I suggest you tell them that you are a responsible person and that having a pet will help you build on that responsibility. Tell them that you will find a job that will help pay for the maintainence of your pet. And that having a pet will make you a better person.

  4. Well for starters, how about trying the following:

#1 Cleaning your room and making sure that it STAYS clean and tidy.

#2 Making sure that your homework is done and handed in on time.

#3 Sweep the floors in the living room and kitchen without your parents asking you to.

#4 Wash and/or dry the dishes.

#5 Do not fight and argue with your sisters & brothers.

#6 Eat what you are given and don't whine or make "yuck" faces when given it.

#7 Don't talk rudly to adults

#8  Always share with other kids.

#9 Go to bed when you are told to.

#10 Research the pet and breed you want to be 100% certain that it is the right one for you.

    # 11 Ask them about getting this new pet in a nice way and don't beg and whine about it.

I’m 100% sure that if you give those a try, they will see that you are serious about wanting to add a this pet to your life and family. :)

  5. you can mention to them that you really want a pet but you dont want to go to a breeder you want to go to an animal shelter or the humane society.  this may get them to give in to the pet because you are wanting to rescue a needy animal.  there are so many pets out there that need a good home that have been abandoned or neglected so this may be the route you want to take, but make sure you are prepared to take care of a pet they are alot of responsibility trust me i know.  i have two dogs, a cat, fish, and 6 rats but i love them all and a pet really does make our lives better they are a great addition to the family and thats the way you have to think of them not as just a dog or cat but as a member of the family.  hope this helps
