Question:

How can I get my parents to stop nagging at me about getting a job?

Ok, I've been unemployed since July 1st (forced to voluntarily quit / was fired), and for the past two weeks or so, I've been getting nagged at by my parents about finding a new job. I have been looking (I plan to apply somewhere else this coming Monday) and I've been calling one place for two or three weeks straight trying to call for an interview and nobody answers, so it's not particularly my fault for being unemployed as I have tried. They seem to think jobs grow on trees, and that is not the case. I've read before even where it takes an average of 3-6 months (I think that was the amount of time) to find a new job. I won't work in a gas station (did that once already and was just stressful) and I won't work in the food industry (can't cook anything). What can I do to basically get them off my back 24/7?

  1. get a job show them you are looking follow up with the companies you are interested in working with. ask your parents do they know somewhere that is hiring... you have to show parents you are trying to stand on your own.

  2. sit down and talk to them just let them know you have been looking and applying to places (maybe they just think you haven been looking) also explain to them the day to day situation and that not all or every place is hiring so to give you time (because you are looking)

try posting your resume on careerbuilder.com look on craigslist.com or monster.com ...craigslist is better

    good luck

  3. You could always just take a temporary job, that you don't necessarily like that much. Don't be picky at all when choosing this job. Then, while you are still working at this job you could search for another one. When you find another job that you want to do, then switch. Your temporary job will just shut them up, and with them not nagging I think it will be worth it.

  4. This day and time you can not be too terribly picky about the job you want or think you should have.

If you have been trying to call a particular place for weeks and never get an answer then chances are the job you think you want there is not good for you.

On the contrary, it does not take 3-6 moths to find a job. There are jobs out there waiting for you to apply.

Stop being so picky about what you are going to do unless it is a lifelong or longterm decision.

  5. You can spend a day going to temp agencies, and they will call you intermittently with work, that you can take or leave.  This is what I would do until you find a job that is more your cup of tea.

Plus it's really good practise for job interviews.

  6. You could work in a book shop or a DVD shop.

  7. HOW OLD ARE YOU?    Calling ONE PLACE for 3 wks is NOT TRYING........you could be calling & VISITING SEVERAL PLACES A DAY........ 3 - 6 months to get a job?  where are you from  FANTASY WORLD? it takes 1-3 days to get a job...........CALL MORE PLACES,  VISIT PLACES EACH & EVERY DAY, you may be dialing the wrong #.......... if there is never no answer, if there is no answer,  GO TO THE BUSINESS & APPLY IN PERSON.............  GET OFF YOUR BUTT & GET OFF THE COUCH............  HOW OLD ARE YOU?  30?

  8.     so you wont work in a gas station or restaraunt ??...coz its too stressfull ??...all jobs are stressful at one time or other...ask yourself..do i really want a job ??...no point on looking for something you dont want..

as for jobs growing on trees...theres alot of jobs out there...if you really want to work..but you wont do any of those things...

i had 2 part time jobs growing up...i pumped gas for 7/hr...and did busboy work for 6.50/hr....it didnt seem like much..but it payed my rent and bills...i moved out and got my own place...i didnt want to hear my parents nagging either.

you want to stop your parents from nagging you to get a job ??...move out and go stay with a friend and see if his parents will let you lay around and do nothing...good luck...

a gas station job or restaraunt job will look good once you find out you have to start paying your own way...trust me.

  9. Hello,

Ok lets look at this as a parent.

You were fired from your job.

You are calling one place for a job. You say you are going to another place Monday.

You have physically tried two places for a job.

You refuse to work the two easiest places to find a job for a kid, the food industry and the gas stations. This means what 100 or more jobs you absolutely refuse to do in a middle sized city, more jobs in a big city .

Do you pay rent, bills, food etc. you are using while sitting around the house.....probably not.

To a parent calling one place for a job is not trying. Your priorities are a little messed up. Your parents are not always going to be around to wipe your nose for you. They just want you to grow up, stand on your own two feet and be proud of yourself.
