How can I get my poem published?

Question

I've posted it 3 times on yahoo answers recently so you might have read it. Some people think I should get it published, but I don't know how to go about it. Does anyone know please? Thank you xx

Get a copy of Poet's Market.  You might be able to find a copy at your local library.  If your poem is about a specific subject, look for literary magazines that publish that type of poem.  Do your research well.  Visit the magazine's website and read some of the poetry that they have published in the past.  In my opinion, this makes it more likely to get published.  The book gives formatting examples as well as examples of cover letters.  In addition, you can mention in your cover letter that you've read the magazine and feel that your poem will fit well with their material.

There are websites that  can publish your poembut it has to be REALLY good to get all the way to being published on the web and more.

Might try sites like "The Writers Market"

They list publishers/ magazines that accept submissions  by genre.

There is a small fee for complete listings & they offer tips on getting published.

Min. fees run about $39 per year.

Try a magazine, I don't know of any magazines, but my English teacher last year encouraged us to enter in poetry magazine contests.

Very difficult. There is no money in it at all. Forget it.
