  1. If you own a home, they are covered with your homeowners insurance, it your a renter, you need renter's insurance for all your belongings. If your a minor living at home, your things are covered under your parents insurance.

  2. Well, first you have to have a real appraisal done, to establish their value.  There isn't much market for the records, so don't expect THEM to be worth much.

Then you take the appraisal, and a list of items, and see if your homeowners carrier will schedule them.  If not, ask your agent for a collector's policy.  It will probably run at least $500 a year, and have a $500 deductible, and probably won't cover against theft unless the collection is stored someplace with a central alarm system.

  3. In most cases, it's best to ask your insurance agent about whether or not your Homeowners policy will cover personal items inside of your vehicle (if you have Homeowners policy). Some insurance companies even offer a separate coverage for personal items that you can add to your policy. These options do vary by state...so I suggest you ask your agent about them. Hope this helps...good luck.

  4. You will probably need to get the collection appraised by a specialty appraiser.

  5. you need to schedule your collection onto your homeowners or renters insurance policy.  its fairly cheap to do so and then they are insured to the full value.
