  1. That happens to some of our rinks during the summer - they say because of condensation that forms on the ceiling and it drips onto the ice - which freezes then becomes those "bumps".  In most cases, a zamboni run would take care of most it - but eek - a couple of the rinks had it REAL bad - and they didn't do much about it.

You can keep complaining to the management and get everyone else to make official complaints as well.  Once it got to the point where many of us just literally boycotted the rink til the bumps were gone (we have several rinks around, so we could do that).  The adults in coffee club (especially the elderly) refused to get on ice where they could potentially hurt themselves).  Getting no customers on the expensive ice sure got the managements attention.

Yah, tripping on those bumps are no fun . . . neither is falling on one or running into one while you're spinning.  Some of the kids used to try to kick it out with their toe picks, but there's no way to do that to all the bumps (they come back in the same spot anyway) - and what a waste of ice time.    Ugh - we used to call those "pickle" bumps.

Hope your rink gets the situation fixed!!

EDITED - oops I just read your details!!  Sorry!

  2. maybe, you could take a broom and TRY to scrap it off. Also, you could go to you're local rink, and ask a worker.

  3. YOu cant! I skate at a small rink too and the lumps are there at mine. There is not much you can do. Just try to work around them and try to file them down with your blade and if they really bother you make you rink aware of it. They might not even know so tell them and whoever does the zamboni with hopefully take action but it is hard to not make these bumps happen! Sorry!

    Good Luck!

  4. get a rinkrake at rinkrake.com

its like a mini zamboni for home rinks
