How can I get my toilet fixed?

I have been having a problem with my toilet leaking and I have told my landlord about it ten times and I have also talked to his boss and neither one will do anything. I have a puddle of water from my toilet to my wall and my sons have fallen it and it smells like sewage in my bathroom, my floor is moldy, and it is falling apart. I called the Board of Health and they wont help my either. Who do I call? What do I do?

  1. here are some possible answers

    - call a plummer

    - get a new 1

    - move  - probably not just for a toliet but... o-well-

try these and see if they work :)

  2. You didn't say what area you're in, but I would look in the phone book for "tenant services", or "tenant rights".  Maybe the "housing commission"? Even better if you know someone who's a real estate agent, they'd know the correct gov't department to contact.

If need be, find the number for "housing discrimination" (at least it'll be an easy number to find) - they aren't the right people, but they should be able to refer you to them.

You can always retain a lawyer, but that's expensive - you'd want to sue for your legal fees as well on the grounds that there's no reason it should have gotten to that point.  Alternately, bring in a contractor, pay to fix it, and then sue the landlord for the repair.  You need good records for this, including when/how many times you tried to get the landlord to do it.  Also, you need to know if the law's on your side...

If you're not in a lease, just move.

Addendum, re: above answerer - if the floor's rotting and their's mold, it's a lot more than just a plumber - you've got some SERIOUS health hazards....

  3. call the plumber,

    whats the big deal

you cant expect the government to fix your toilet

then fight with the landlord about fronting the bill

but in the end getting it fixed is the main point

    or is it?????
