I am on about 100 mg of methadone daily, and I reallllllllly want to get off- I drive 45 min to a clinic EVERY DAY and it sucks, plus the side effects are bothering me- ne way, i really want to get off but I am afraid of the withdrawal, and I want to do it fast. I have to do it at home (no insurance). Is there a way?

  1. If you really want to get off the stuff, why don't you check yourself in to a treatment center? You say you have no insurance,so maybe you should call your social services office or call a treatment place & tell them your story and i'm sure they would find some kind of way to help you.

  2. I worked at a hospital where they did methadone for pain.  It took people a long time to get off of it.

  3. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix for getting off Methadone and the relapse rate is really high. Have you considered switching to Suboxone? Many people switch because they do not like the clinic regulations and are afforded a little more flexibility with Suboxone. They have a clinic locater and info at http://www.naabt.com Anyway, it is very dangerous and painful to come off Methadone without a doctors supervision so my suggestion would be to have the clinic detox you. The slower the better. Research shows higher success rates with slower detoxes although none are very high. It takes a very long time so good luck.
