  1. The jury summons should have some place to call. Call them up right now, and explain that you have already booked the cruise. They will just put you into the hopper for the next jury.

This happens all the time, so it's not that unusual. Just be nice about it, and you should have no problem.

If there is still a problem, these people have a boss. Just ask them to whom you should put questions about the operation.

You should also be able to get help through your elected officials, depending on what kind of a jury it is. If it's a local jury, your local elected official can be of help. Call up your mayor's office and they will probably direct you to call someone else, but they will also probably guide you correctly.

  2. Sounds like you are screwed

  3. You can reschedule.

  4. Do you have any mental or physical problems?

    Call and explain if so.

  5. Just contact them and reschedule.  They do this all the time.

  6. I wrote a letter.  Granted I'm still in school and it's different, but if you have something booked .. and it's obviously not anything cheap .. they should understand.  Tell them you wish ;] you could help fulfill "your civil duty" or whatever, but with the circumstances present you won't be able to do so at this time.

  7. Call the clerk of court & explain your situation to them. It's usually not a big problem at all!

  8. Act like a raciest bigot at the interview

  9. Tell them you're an anarchist.

  10. You will have to call and discuss this with the Court.  They might be able to put your name back in for a different one in the future.  I have gotten out of it before, but it was for a very different reason.  I work in the court system, so they took my name off the list FOREVER.  yeah.  But dont wait until the last minute, call or go and discuss with the clerks asap.

  11. You haven't actually been assigned to a trail yet - you're just "on-call" to potentially be a juror for trials beginning on those dates.

Call the court and ask them for an extension / delay in your service (they can delay your service for up to three months).  My g/f had tried to postpone her service because she was going to be out of town on the dates of her service as well... when she was denied - she contacted the court and they moved her service to a week early.

Most court systems will work with you a bit if you have a scheduling conflict and are willing to talk to them.

  12. I don't know for sure, but it seems that if you ask them to re-schedule instead of just telling them that you can't do it, they would consider your request.

My ex-husband was a professor and had classes to teach.  They kept sending him jury duty every few months even though he would get out of it since he had 100's of students depending on him, but they will persist if you get out, so make it look like you are willing and ask them to re-schedule you for the next opening.  That way, they will probably treat you better.  There are a lot of people who don't want to do it and try to get out, so if you ask them to re-schedule, they won't think so negatively of you.  Tell them why, and maybe show proof that you have already commited financially.

  13. You can ask for a dismissal one time. Contact the court, or fill out the form. Your jury duty will be delayed for a short time.

  14. The best thing to do is to ask to have your date changed. It can be done if you request it and really do this, because some counties really send out a bench warrant if you do not respond..  you will have to have proof with you that you have made previous plans.
