My music teacher wants me to audition for an orchestra which takes up 2 hours a week and is for people of quite a high standard. I don't want to join especially as i already do a lot of music and i have quite a busy week as it is. I'm not very assertive and as I tried to politly decline the offer, my teacher suggested I audtioned anyway to see whether i would get it. Trouble is, if i don't get in, I look really bad in front of all the music staff which I don't want. Without lying, what should i do? I'm too shy to tell my tutor I don't want to do it, as i've already shown too much interest now. Please help!

  1. Talk to your parents.  Maybe they can come up with a reason/excuse not to do orchestra.

  2. i'm assuming you are in high school...let her know that you mainly want to focus on your studies so you can earn good grades for college and that you believe you have enough extra curricular activities on your plate right now to balance, if you add more, it may throw everything else out of whack.  Also, let her know you are honored that she considered you for it.  She sounds like a wonderful instructor.
