I hate being a sped because they say your stupid and I would dlike to learn more. But I work my **s off, I really do just to pass special ed classes. It's like I work to get D-'s, but I want to get at least decent grades in regular-ed classes. I really want it. But I cannot work any harder. What to do!?

  1. Speak to your parents and your couselor and your IEP or ESE teacher. Tell them how you feel.

  2. I'm sorry but you should talk to your parents and your teacher and the head of your special needs group for your school district.

In my school district my mother was a big influence in getting a lot of rouges to change about how special Education students are treated and how they inter caked with special Needs Students. Like for one If any one is chute calling a kid with Special Needs names they get Detente and after the 3'ed time they are expelled from school. We have a Lunch buddy program and Every student in the school has a talk to at each grad and talked to the students that they are no different than they are.

  3. ask your parents to request u out

  4. You sound like you must be a high school student.  Are you in inclusion classes?  If not, you should be.  Unless someone else typed your question, it is obvious to me that you have the skills to handle regular eduation curriculum with some accommodations.  Tell your parents that you want them to request an IEP meeting to place you into inclusion classes.

  5. Well the only thing i can tell you is to work a little harder and you will get out of there. So good luck.

  6. Well you can't just switch out of your Special Ed class. It needs to be cleared through a meeting regarding your IEP. This meeting happens yearly (in the same exact month). Ask your teacher when it is. When it comes up, request that you be there. At that time ask them if you can have Educational Evaluation (these are given every 3 years, but you should be able to request it). If you take that Ed Evaluation and get average scores in certain areas, then you could totally be on your way to a regular ed classroom.

Good luck...and your not dumb, you just take a different route to learning things. Take care.

  7. You are not stupid for being in special education!  These classes are to help you be able to focus better and have smaller class sizes.  I would stay in the special education classes because then you will get the support you need even after high school.  I had a student who felt the same way but after a week of being in the general education classes, he realized he wanted back in.  Think about all the people who have to take time out of their already busy schedule before you make any quick decisions.  Each time you make a change, there has to be a case conference called and a lot of paper work done, phone calls made, and everything else that goes with the conferences.  You are in special education for a reason and you should take full advantage of that.  As for the person who said you will have to get used to being dumb, you are not dumb!!  When you get into the real world, no one is even going to care if you were in special education, general education, or super genius school, I am sure you will be the best at something that those who make fun of you can't do!!  I know a lot of "top dogs" that now work at dead end jobs and are very unhappy with 5 kids and no spouse helping.  Whereas I am a special education teacher, with a husband, a baby on the way, and two wonderful pets (but guess what, I was miserable throughout most of school).  It will, most likely, all work in the end.

  8. Just because you are in Special Education does not mean you are stupid.  There is really no way of getting out of them if you need them.  You realize that if you went into a 'normal' class you would most likely fail?  Stick to your class, it's your only good option.

  9. What grade are you in? How do you think General Ed classes will benefit you more than a Sped Class? Think long and hard because when you're in Sped you're protected from a lot of things. It can work in your favor if you take advantage of what they have to offer you, then you're more likely to learn more and go farther. As long as you're not a Mi/Md self contained then you should graduate with a diploma. Start doing research and asking questions from Regular ed teachers and you should get your answer. Things are not always brighter on the other side. I know, I'm a Sped teacher, teaching Regular Ed classes. My Reg ed students are suffering along with the Sped children and they're not getting a lot of the accommodations you get.   Good Luck!!!
