Whenvever I am around older people(I am 16) that I do not know very well, I become timid, create weird facial expressions and lose my confidence. This mostly happens with teachers. I know that if I want to succeed in life, I need to become more loud and assertive. Do you have any tips on helping me change.

  1. Most youth are a bit timid in front of older people they don't know.  This is a good thing, really, it shows a wholesome respect.  The answer is that you will grow up, and you will not always feel this shyness, AND you will know when you can be assertive and when it's appropriate.

Meanwhile, I wouldn't worry about it too much!

  2. Your on the right path. Being assertive is something you definitely need loud is irrelevant though. A loud person is just loud:). You sound sort of like me but i get it around people my age. I love being around older people:) people my age is what really gets me

  3. I was the same way. I changed how people viewed me, rather than major personality traits. I'm now viewed as a bit aloof, but when I get into an argument/debate about something I care about, I can be really loud. Don't get shy or speak weakly. If you don't like to talk, when you have to speak, make your voice clear and defined, like a newscaster. People can change their views of you from "timid" to "mysterious". Being shy isn't the same thing as being introverted. Shyness is being scared to meet someone or do something, while introversion is being perfectly happy being by yourself and not having to be the center of attention.

  4. Yeah, Bill is kinda right.  I was that way, and when my time came, I become assertive if need be.  Just don't worry about it, and you will eventually be assertive when you need to be.
