I am self employed and my registry will not pay for hours lost even though I was serving my civic duty. The state institution I work for will not pay because I am a contractor.

  1. Then you just donated a day.  You know that you can be excused for a hardship if you lose pay - next time do it.

  2. A lot of employers will not pay or require you to turn over your jury duty compensation in order to be paid. But if you are self-employed, no one is going to compensate you for lost work.

  3. I was paid $10 a day by the state for being on a jury.  What I received from my employer was time away from them.  I thought that was a bargain.

  4. you should get paid even if you dont work at all ie  retired person.....check with the court clerk

  5. The county or state or government agency that called you for jury duty will pay you a standard fee.  As a self-emplyed contractor, you essentially pay yourself.

  6. There's no requirement for an employer to pay you during jury duty - the law only specifies that you can't be fired/punished for serving. Some companies do continue to pay your regular salary for a certain number of days. If you're self-employed, feel free to pay yourself as much as you want.

  7. ~~You wont get paid. It's just a civic duty we have to perform. Some companies pay their employees, most do not. It is a true hardship for those who don't get paid, but it is what it is!~~
