I've started working for a small, disorganized NGO in Brazil, and need to get publicity for them. I have photos and documentaries of the community projects we run, and can also write articles if needed. But I have no idea where to start??

  1. Go to the local newspaper.  Talk to local TV and radio.  Find clients of your NGO that are willing to share their stories.  Blog.  Share vids on YouTube.  Make connections with similar NGOs and collaborate with them.  Remember, resources at nonprofit organizations are always at a premium.  The more you creatively collaborate with similar NGOs the more effective you'll probably be.  This will also lead to media exposure.  You might also want to try a local fundraising event in your area, getting local businesses to donate prizes or premiums.  This will get you noticed right away.  I hope this helps...

Also- grant funders at major foundations want to know that you are making the most of their foundation dollar.  Publicizing how much of every dollar (or whatever local currency you are using) is going to meet constituent needs is a great way to get noticed.  For example, if you can say, "90 cents of every donated dollar goes to meet constituent needs"- this is great.
