How can I get rid of Jetlag?

I fly a lot because I work in Asia, so I fly to America a few times a year. Until recently jetlag was never an issue for me, my sleeping sorted out after 3 or 4 days. But this time its been 6 days and I still am sleeping irregularly; last night I woke up at 2:30 and didn't get back to sleep till 6 am, while the other day i went to sleep at 12 and woke up at 2. Does anyone have any suggestions for overcoming jetlag?

Thanks a lot.

  1. Travel by ship

  2. I think you must have picked up a bug. Normally, the more you fly, the better off you are!~!!!

  3. Recent reports have suggested that travelers can avoid jet lag altogether by taking melatonin, a non-prescription medication

  4. Try to keep moving as much as possible (even if you are tired) and stay outside or where it is light. You basically have to trick your body into adjusting with the new time zone. Keep active and only sleep when it is night where you are. Hope this helps!

  5. Generally it's about exposure to light to reset your internal clock.

Try to be outside, or next to a very sunny window, as much as possible during the day.  Then in the evening have low light, and make sure your room is as dark as possible to sleep in.

Drink lots of water and be active during the day.

If it gets really bad, try using an OTC sleeping aid for a night or two.  I use Tylenol PM, and usually just one tablet does the trick.

  6. I travel a lot as well, when I fly somewhere with a drastic change in time zones(6+ hours) I always stay up the rest of the day when I arrive until a reasonable time to sleep comes, then the next morning a set an alarm for the morning even if my meeting isn't until the day after so I can still keep my sleeping schedule.
