How can I get rid of Virginia Creeper?

It is taking over my whole landscape - I have ivy around my house and the Virginia creeper is growing right on top. I also heard that you can get a rash from it and I already had a terrible time with poison ivy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

  1. use thick garden gloves and a long sleeve shirt when working this plant.

Then cut it down to almost the ground, then dig towards the roots with a sharp tool like a machete knife. Its hard to be rid of it but keep digging at the roots until they are all gone.

  2. It doesn't cause a rash like poison ivy.  To get rid of it you can pull it and pull it and pull it some more.  Or you can get a selective weed killer like Weed*b*Gon by Ortho (or something similar) and spray them on a day when the temp is above 60 and it's not going to rain for 24 hours.  Be careful not to spray other "broadleaf" plants that you don't want to kill.  I used it on a bed of periwinkle covering a hill outside by back door and it killed it in a week.  A few came back but a second spray did the job.
