How can I get rid of a cold draft caused by my bedroom window?

My bedroom window is as wide/high as the widest wall in my room meaning it's massive.

It causes major drafts.. I need some ways of blocking out the draft myself - I can't move any furniture around. I was thinking of sticky taping the entire edges of the window but don't know if it would work? anyone have any ideas on what I could do? thanks

  1. A few ideas spring to mind:

    1) Close the window.

    2) Cover the window with a brick wall.

    3) Buy a new house with a smaller window where no drafts enter.

    4) Move to a lighthouse stairwell.

  2. You can ask if there is some kind of insulation you can put in those spaces around the window other than the traditional kind.

  3. you can use something like this

    they really work

  4. K-mart and others have a roll of sticky (one side) insulation foam strip. You just press it into the window cracks and cut it where you want. It's not wide and unsightly, it's thin and it Works. If they don't have it in stock yet, they soon will!

  5. I used to live in an old farmhouse with the same problem. I bought a tube of removeable caulk and I ran a bead around the window on the inside. If you ever want to remove it, it just peels off. Its clear so you wont notice it. You can buy it at Lowes.

  6. Plastic sheets, taped over the window

My room there is a gap between the window and the wall - i cant see it, but it blows the curtians.

I purchased a roll of plastic (the cheapest i could find), and a roll of tape, and covered the windows completely. I do this every winter now with the same plastic. It eliminated the draft.

  7. The best way is to caulk the outside of the window frame.  The draft doesn't come through the window, but around the edges.  Caulk seals this, and will make the frame last longer. (No rot)  Lots of times on the original installation the installer doesn't do the best job.  If the gap is wide, spray foam insulation
