Question:

How can I get rid of audio gaps/glitches/hiccups when importing long play DV footage?

I'm editing a video that someone else shot on Long Play and it's proving a nightmare with sound. (When I import other footage in standard play there is no problem). When I import with a firewire cable every few seconds there is a gap in the sound and a faint screechy digital noise. I've tried importing the audio separately using an analogue to digital converter and it cuts out much of the gaps but not all of them. Can anyone explain why this happens and offer any solutions? Would it make any difference if imported with the original camera that shot the footage in the first place?

  1. I've never used LP but I'm told that there can be compatibility problems between camcorders and that some NLEs have problems too.  That being the case I'd certainly try capturing from the original camcorder and, if that doesn't fix it, try some other capture apps.
