How can I get rid of fleas in my home?

I "bombed" the house twice but the fleas are still around. I washed all throw rugs, and vacuumed after I did the "bomb" thing, all to no avail. Please help.

  1. We had a horrible infestation when we lived in California. I made an appointment with the vet for the cat to get a flea bath and made an appointment for an eterminator to come at the same time. It was safer and far more effective than those bombs. I think it was about $100.00 for a 1250 square foot condo and came with a six month gaurentee.

We were good until we moved a year later.

  2. OMG, I own a carpet business & I went through this a couple of yrs ago.

The problem with fleas is they multiply so fast. They feed off of blood deposits in the carpet & can lay dormant for mo's.

They are attracted by vibration. I tried everything, bombs, home depot spray. I finally went to an exterminator & got this stuff called Conquer. You put it in a spray bottle & spray the entire floor, bed & furniture.

Well worth the investment. Trust me I lived in agony for mo's.

  3. OOPS  did you empty the vaccum bag? I used Black Flag flea and tick spray. You need to be very careful with it. follow directions on the can.

  4. vacuum every day for six weeks.Once a week use cat flea power like carpet fresh, let it set as long as feasible, then vacuum. Six weeks will make sure you get all the babies that hatch from the eggs.

  5. I have 3 indoor cats and have had this problem. When my son first brought in two of my cats they were infested with fleas, mites and worms. Be sure you are treating the pets and the pet bedding. Vacuum all soft surfaces and empty the bag or dirt cup into the outside trash. I recommend a flea tratment called Enforcer Flea Spray...you can get it at Home Depot. Go by the instructions. You will need to do it twice because the first will kill the adults and the second time will kill any eggs that may have gotten skipped the first time. This method has worked very, very well for me.

If memory serves me right it was quite a bit less expensive at Home depot than in this link...

  6. Do you have cats or dogs, or are the flees from something else?

If you have pets, treat the pets. Put the expensive stuff in their hair, or use the food-treatment.

One thing you must realize is the life cycle of the flea.  Basically it takes a while to get from eggs to almost-ready fleas.   When they are almost ready, they're inside a cocoon.  When they feel tremors (i.e. YOU), they leave the cocoon in a hurry and jump you.

That is why your treatment does not work. You are experiencing fresh new fleas who have not been outside their cocoon yet.

Your treatment only kills flees that drop to the floor after they've had dinner on you or one of your pets.

Good news: Keep this up, use the vacuum-cleaner (a lot), wear long trousers, and you'll get rid of them.
