How can I get rid of tape on the outside of my car without damaging the paint?

I bought a used car from an individual and it has alot of tape on the roof that has been their for a few years. What can I do to get rid of it? Is their a chemical compound that can eat away the tape without damaging my paint?

  1. Use really hot soapy water. That shoudl work, and maybe a brush or something to use for a little pressure to scrape if you have trouble.


  2. Whatever you do don't scrape, that will scratch the paint. Check out this link. There are a lot of good methods to get tape residue off your car without ruining the paint..

  4. Put on a pair of leather gloves and roll as much off as possible. Then take a light polish to the adhesive residue.

    Try this ( I use it all the time for tape on carpet)

    Its called Fast Orange or just Orange at a janitorial supply store or maybe just a store ( it has a very strong citrus smell).. spray it on the tape let set a little ( don't let dry) and it should brush off with heavy bristle brush and soap and water.
