How can I get rid of the spiders?

We keep having a spider problem on the front porch. We don't have any furniture or a lot of clutter on my porch. The only things there are the door mat, and 3 hanging baskets. I leave the porch light on because it attrachs bugs, even with a bug light in it.

I have tried sweeping the walls and ceiling of the porch. I have even washed everything with soap. And spraying household incect killer. It all works for about a week. Then it turns into spider city again.

Is there anything that I can do or use to help keep them off the porch?

  1. Turn your light off for starters, the bugs attract the spiders because it is an easy food source for the spiders. Secondly, these days of high carbon emissions it is advisable to save energy resources. Not to mention keep your power bill costs down. Spiders wont harm you if you leave them alone and are really quite fascinating in an icky kind of way.

  2. spiders can be good.  If you have a wide variety or dense garden than they are probably killing a lot of bugs.  if you want to try a solution that isnt just napalming the spiders.  get a frog somehow or get praying mantis'  to narrow down the abundance in bugs.  im sure the kids would love that idea too. :)

  3. You don't say where you live, but my expert guess is that you have a Southern House Spider problem or something similar to that.  What do the spiders look like.  Is your home a brick one, or wood siding?  Shutters?  Unfortunately, it will take regular maintenance to control them.  Most likely, there are abundant flying insects for them to feed on.  But, the difficulty in getting rid of them stems from the fact that you probably aren't  reaching them where they live.  You may need a pressure washer to really get at them.

  4. spiders swarm where there are bugs, bugs are attracted to the light and the flowers on your deck, is there any other possible place for your plants to go?
