I am interested in filling in our 25 year old swimming pool and expanding our yard. It's an 18' x 36' hole that we spend $2,500 per year keeping open. We've decided we don't want it anymore and would rather have the yard instead. But where do we start? Obviously we must drain it, but what next? Anyone one out there done this before and how much was the price?

  1. Well when we were putting in out new mailbox we got about 3 feet down and hit gravel.  the more we dug the more gravel sank down, and we are guessing that the underneath of our front yard is all gravel.  So maybe you can just fill it till there is about 3 feet left and then put filler dirt up from there.  Our yard, trees, and grass are doing fine.

  2. An excavator can do most of the work after the power runs are disconnected.

Pools in my area come & go.

Watched it done w/ a backhoe.

Contractor bashed the bottom of the drained pool to prevent a swamp from forming & pushed the fencing, sidewalls, concrete walks & coping in as fill. they added crushed rock , gravel & covered it over w/ dirt  & topsoil used to regrade the yard.

The area became part lawn , part paver brick patio...not sure if it was separate contractors.

Took about a week to finish & clean up.

    A backhoe for a day runs  less than $ 1000 .

    As for the rest ?

    Best regards

  3. Break the concrete on the first 12 to 16 inches of the pool. Throw it in the pool remove the pump then fill it in with dirt. Nobody will ever know there was a pool. Good Luck
