  1. the mechanic era is almost a thing of the past most vehicles are now computerized in one way or another 40% mechanic 60% computerized and electronics,so special training and equipment is required but you need to learn the basics, try finding an apprentice job and back that up with a 2 year city college course, experience is key the more you are exposed the ,better you will become of course you will need tool so be prepared to invest in a craftsman set to start with, auto repair consist of different areas and some techs are better in some areas than others ,some techs are good in all areas and that's when you can certify your self as an ase master tech,it takes money to make money and you will have to invest a good amount of money i have invested thousands and hundreds of hours of training its a rewarding field, you got to have talent and patience tobe a good tech, the military offers a good auto tech training program i have many friends who served and learned to work on diesel and hydraulics and computerized controls, good luck to you and keep on wrenching.

  2. Garages, Car Washes, Gas Stations are a good way to start oyu will probably be mopping floors and be the gopher for a while but its a great way to get started if you like cars.

    Hope I Helped.

  3. Check with your local Unemployment office, They may have a shop that will mentor and train you under an apprenticeship program. You will make minimum wage till you attain enough skills and graduate your apprenticeship program. Takes approx. 3 years of apprenticeship.

Also try your local New Car dealers. They would love to have someone they have trained themselves (not starting with any bad habits)

  4. are you in high school? most high school's offer a auto shop. or if not try going to a school that specializes in mechanics. go to the public library and catch up on some stuff about cars too.

  5. Start small slowly take on bigger projects on your own car thats what I did. Google what you want to know most of it on the internet for free.

  6. My ex fiance is a mechanic.  It came natural to him, as he always seemed to be drawn to it.  He took a 2 year course at our local community college.  We broke up years ago, and at that time he was making $80,000 per year!  The company he worked for paid for him to become ASE certified!  If you are on a budget, apply for a grant to go to school!  Your local 2-year school would be able to provide you with the info.  Good luck!

  7. You need to try and find  some people in your school that might want to do the same thing you do, Maybe you'll could get together and work on a few things here and there. When you get out of high school ,you could go to a trade school.  Back when i was just a kid ,iwas always into something waiting to know how it was put together and what made it work . so it just came natural to me to want to learn mechanics. I was nine years old when i first put a motor back into a car, my dad had a battery to blow up in his face and he could'nt see to put the motor back in, so he would tell me what to do and when i had a problem ,i would tell him what i was trying to do and he will tell how to do it .Now i'm 46 .
