I have always wanted to compete in rodeos, just at a local level. I live in a city in Alberta, which has lots of local rodeos. I'm 18...is that too late to start? I'm not even that great at riding horses. Should I get better at riding first? What rodeo event is the easiest to get started in? Thanks.

  1. if your not great at riding I'd get to know the basics first. You will be going up agaisnt people who are REAL cowboys and have been riding all their life. Your going to need to learn balance, and horse movements.

and when it does come time to start I would start with the saddle bronc, work your way down to bareback bronc and if you want after you get real good at those two....you can try bull riding.

but if I were you..... to get started riding bronc...I would just simpily ask people if they would like the  buck be ridden outta their 3 year old who needs training. People will pay money if you will ride the buck out of their horses so they can start to saddle train them. This will give you practice and some extra money in your pocket :)

  2. My son loves it, go on line in your local area and punch up your local western pleasure, gymkhana stables...get your self some lessons or muck some stalls for exchange of training on barrels calf roping anything you like you will see it on line when you type in the above my boys are 11, and 9 they have been doing it for 3 yrs now but not too many boy do it round here but so what, lots of pretty gals for the picking' my 11 year old said I don't understand why more guys around here don't do this all the girls in the tight pants are here! right! now I am a cool mom or what! we live in Pennsylvania USA, good luck... never too late to start leave your pride at the door!
