Question:

How can I get the help I need?

Well, I've been anorexic(diagnosed) for 2 years. I've had my weight skyrocket and plummet. I told my parents a year ago, about my problems with food, just the not-eating-it part. Nothing about the binging/purging part of it.

Lately, I've been having real problems with it. I've been restricting, but then binging and purging. I've dropped 23 pounds in about a month. I live with my father and I know he's noticed, but I don't know if he's linked it to my ED.

I'm not really a big fan of purging, like I like the feeling of gaining all the control back, but I don't like the fact that it can damage my teeth and whatnot.

Okay, what I'm eventually asking in this too-long question is, how do I get help, without telling my parents that I'm having a real problem? My weight isn't super low, I'm a little overweight according to medical standards, and I'm just the same ol' me.

I need help!

How do I get it?

  1. As a parent, I hope you would tell your parents about the purging and binging part of your eating disorder. They are going to be upset, but with their help, and with medical assistance if needed, you can overcome this cycle and maintain the weight you should have (notice I did not say the weight you think you should have - they could be very different).

As a dieter, purging and binging just isn't a healthy way to control your weight. You really don't have any control .. except for making yourself vomit.

As a former teen, I do understand that what you perceive as your appearance is as important, if not more important, than your actual appearance.

    Good luck!

  2. How about a school counselor?  Maybe the school nurse could help.  Could you talk to a friend's mother?  Could you have your parents make a doctor appt. and talk to the doctor without them in the room?  I don't know...I don't see how you're going to effectively deal with this without their help.  Good luck!
