How can I get the web address to appear in the search "box"?

I used to be able to copy & paste web links from the search bar ~ because the address use to apper there but some how/for some reason all of the search boxes remain blank now...

I'm not 100% sure but I'm guessing a 3 year old little boy who calls me mommy has something to do with this
