How can I get to Heidelberg from Stuttgart Airport?

Is it easy to go to Heidelberg from Stuttgart Airport?

Is there any train or bus?

If there is, is it directly from Airport or do we need to take a taxi to

get to train station?

There is a subway, 3rd below-ground level at the original Stuttgart airport connected to the railways. The only way I can get around on the Deutsch Bahn (train) is to print out a journey schedule and wear a watch. You have to jump trains several times. Stuttgart is in the state of Baden-Wuertemberg. Heidelberg is in the next state over, Pfalz -- and what Americans would call a "state", the Germans call a "country" each with its own laws and tax revenues ... you'll see the difference in highways. No plane to Heidelberg.

The easiest is by train. The name of the German train company is Deutsche Bahn (DB). Go to their website (they have an english version) to search the schedule. You will have to take the subway to the Central station in Stuttgart called Hauptbahnhof (Hbf), the subway from the airport goes directly to the Hbf so you do not need to change trains. At the Hbf follow the DB signs (red on white background) to find the above ground central station to take the train to Heidelberg (~1h), ticket are ~ 20 Euro for 2nd class, depending on what type of train you use. If you buy hte ticket at the airport subway station both your subway and train ride are covered bu the ticket.

Another option is to search for a ride on the 'Mitfahrzentrale'. This is a site where people (mostly students) post times when they travel between different cities and are looking for people to ride with them and possibly share cost for gasoline. This site however is in German, but it is pretty obvious to navigate and most Germans speak english so you can email the people posting on that site. http://www.mitfahrerzentrale.de/
