Question:

How can I get top spin on my tennis serve?

I have plenty of power, ht the ball clean right out of the middle of the racket

But i'm too flat, either just long or into the top of the net

When I do get it right, it's usually an ace or I win the point by volleying, so I don't want to change too much

Please help

  1. Throw the ball to your left (assuming you are right handed) and behind you slightly, and tilt your racquet head to impart top spin. Come "over" the ball.

As you can imagine it is hard to explain, but once you get the idea you are set!

  2. Key factors

    1.  If your not using the continental grip you will never get spin. it is the only acceptable grip for the serve.

    2.  Toss the ball behind you more.  Whever your toss is currently, send it slightly more over your head (but dont make it ridiculous!)

    3.  Get the feeling of brushing up the back of the ball on your serve, this will kick the ball.

    4.  You must serve just as hard as your first serve, but you should be brushing up the back of the ball instead of hitting out in front (as you would for a flatter serve).  It takes more of a swing to spin the ball.

    5.  *Make sure you throw your arm as hard as you can OUT.  With the racquet behind your head, get the feeling of hitting OUT to the right as hard as you can (assuming you're righty).

  3. the key of top spin is "how long can you hold the ball on your racket" Easy way is you hit at about 8 (clock) then you swing it and let it go about 1 or 2.

    DON'T hit too hard

its a bit hard to explain
