How can I give a bedroom some privacy?

At the top of my stair way is a small bedroom which is open. I want to put a bed in that room, but when people come up the steps I do not want them to see the bed.

I do not want to build a wall. Please help.

You could put up a folding screen, curtains over the door, or move the bed against a wall that would not be seen from the stairs,

Put a small solid gate at the top of the stairs. That way you will need to be at the top to see the bed. You could put a curtain around the rail at the top to make it more private. For the while just place a piece of carboard there to test the idea or hang a sheet over the rail to see if it is enough.

We built out a room from our 2-car garage. We made a bedroom in half and a play room in the other half.  We went to a used office furniture place and found three large walls they use to partition off a desk in an office.  We got real nice ones with real wood around the edge and a dark brick red fabric.  You could make something like this if you don't want to go buy it.  Get braces for the "feet" so it does not tip over.  It was also great to hang stuff from like a huge bulletin board.

Hard to answer w/out a picture.  You could make a partial wall to hide the bed or get a headboard that is big and plain and face the bed away from the top of the stairs.  The head board would be kind of like a partial wall.  You could also use door panels for this.  Give more info or a lay out so I can get a bettwer idea.  U can also use door panels on a track that will slide out of the way to use it.
