  1. With traveling timeouts don't really work because they are already stuck seated and are more likely to act out because of that anyways.  I try to make sure the boys have coloring books and travel games and we sing songs while traveling.  If it gets bad enough we stop at a reststop and do a timeout or cool down period.  If that can't be done I will let them know that when we get where we are going they will have a 5 minute timeout for their behavior in the car.

  2. Try telling him no talking or at every rest stop buy him a little toy then if he is bad no toy!

  3. put the kid in the trunk lol just joking

  4. not let them talk for a few mins. if you have a portable dvd player, then take it. and turn off the music. and just everyone be silent for a few mins (however long you want the time out to be for) if they talk, then dont reply (unless its an emergency lol) or if they are playing with a toy, take it.

and at the next stop, do not buy them a candy/or little toy.

  5. play old songs very loud and tell them they cant complain

or they will have no toys for a week while returning

  6. No music/ No toys.

    No talking.

and use the "ignore method" that nanny 911 uses.

  7. They are kind of already in time out...since you posted in the toddler section, I am going to guess this is a young child.  My 2 1/2 yr old can get very bored and act out on long rides.  We have a portable dvd player that helps for a while, but when he starts getting antsy, I start playing "I spy with my little eye", I pause and ask if he wants a turn, if not I just continue on.  I usually "spy" things he is either interested in (trucks, construction vehicles, etc) or something silly "I spy with my little eye...mommy's hand!!!" and act like I am very surprised to see my hand (ok...as much as I can while driving).  So far it works...find a few goofy games that will distract him/her before the "real" acting out begins.

  8. turn down the radio and play the silent game let say he is four what you do is tell him he cant talk for 4 minutes and if he starts to whine or talk then the 4 minutes starts over good luck and take care

  9. Ignore the child and threaten them by saying " If you dont behave yourself we wont be going to the park later" or something that they like to do.

  10. Silence is golden.
