  1. plane: http://www.sidestep.com/

Amtrak runs several passenger trains between Miami and NYC every day making stops in Florida mostly along the Atlantic, but also in Tampa.  For example the Silver Service and Palmetto trains which stop in Newark, Trenton, Philly and these Florida cities:

    Jacksonville, FL (JAX)

    Palatka, FL (PAK)

    Deland, FL (DLD)

    Winter Park, FL (WPK)

    Orlando, FL (ORL)

    Kissimmee, FL (KIS)

    Tampa, FL (TPA)

    Lakeland, FL (LAK)

    Winter Haven, FL (WTH)

    Sebring, FL (SBG)

    Okeechobee, FL (OKE)

    West Palm Beach, FL (WPB)

    Delray Beach, FL (DLB)

    Deerfield Beach, FL (DFB)

    Fort Lauderdale, FL (FTL)

    Hollywood, FL (HOL)

    Miami, FL (MIA)

  2. Try amtrack.com for train tickets, they are probably cheaper than airfare.  You can purchase these at any age.  Go to New York Penn Station and you can get a New Jersey Transit bus to pretty much anywhere in NJ from Port Authority, which is only a few blocks away.  Unless you go in person to purchase the tickets, though, you will need a credit or debit card.  Good luck!

  3. I prefer AMTRAK from Florida to New Jersey.

Not too expensive and rail travel is the best way to travel.
