I want something cheap (at least not as expensive as taxis) but safe, since I will be carrying my luggage.

  1. It's about 30 minutes from the airport the the heart of madrid so a cab would cost u about 45 euros or 40 US at the most .

Since you have luggage it seems the best solution.

  2. Take the bus... You'll be fine.

    Enjoy your trip.

  3. The metro (subway) system is amazing, and I used it every time I traveled from the airport into the city. It is 1.20 euros for a single trip I believe and 6.35 euros I think for a 10 trip pass. Even if there are not elevators, there are escalators and people carry their luggage with them ALL the time, so it isn't like people are going to be annoyed by you. Enjoy your trip, Madrid is amazing!

  4. you can go by train, its relatively cheap and quite safe

  5. It depends where in the center you're going and which terminal you are arriving to. Underground is the cheapest option (1€ or 1,2$) but depending on your final destination you'll be able to use elevators to carry your luggage or not as some stations are new, most not. You also have buses. Taxi will cost you between 15 and 30€ depending on time, terminal, distance and traffic.

If you tell me the area where you are going I can give you the options more accurately.

  6. Madrid's Barajas airport lies 13km to the northeast of Madrid's city limits. There is a fine transport system between Madrid airport and the city see http://www.spain4uk.co.uk/madrid_airport... for more details
