Question:

How can I hard cook separated egg whites (without the yolk)?

My kids love hard-boiled eggs, but just the whites. Rather than just throwing out the cooked yolks, I'd rather use those yolks to make crème brûlée. How would I separate the whites and hard cook them, perhaps using a mold of some sort?

  1. See if you can poach the whites in an egg poacher and see if they eat the white that way.

  2. Separate the yolks from the whites.  Pour the whites into custard cups and place cups into a larger pan.  Pour boiling water into the pan until it comes half way up the sides of the cups.  Bake at 350 for about 15 minutes or until set.

  3. I'd poach them, there are such thing as poachers, but I would

put some water in the bottom of the small pan, and crack the eggs but only let the whites go in the bath then poach them that way saving the yolks..

this reminds me I've been wanting to make custard.

But anyway You can buy a poach pan at most household stores, and get a really nice result.

  4. You can use muffin tins - spray them with pan spray, pour in the egg white, set it in a water bath, cover with foil and bake for about twenty minutes or so.

  5. I don't really know. I also don't like hard boiled eggs so I would use them for something else but I don't think you can seperate them unless you take the egg white off and cook the yolk.

    Hope this helps!

  6. you could try cooking soft boiled eggs, bring the water to a rolling boil, add the eggs, let it reach a boil and time it for five minutes. I hate hard boiled eggs there dry, soft boiled keeps the yolk soft. Try it im sure you and your kids will enjoy them.
