How can I have a successful lucid dream?

I have been trying to have lucid dreams for a few days now, but I haven't suceeded yet. I am a very heavy sleeper and when I dream, it is like a bizzare, blurry movie but through my own eyes.

I usally fall asleep with my head full of little thoughts and those start a mild dream. However, they fade away and sometimes, I can't be sure if they are mere thoughts or dreams. Also, I have trouble falling asleep easily.

Is there any way that I can have a clear, realistic lucid dream?

  1. I don't know.  I've only been able to successfully do it once or twice in my life.  Once when I was little I had a bad dream about a huge monster.  I woke up scared and decided to "make friends" with the monster.  I fell back to sleep and re-entered the dream!!!  And made friends with the monster.  But I haven't really been able to do that sort of thing since.

  2. Start writing key words when you first wake up, sometimes this helps.  I took Psychology 101 and we did this, some of us had more lucid dreaming than others.
