How can I help a family that has a child with ALD (like in Lorenzo's Oil)??

I'm a Family and Consumer Science Education major (Home-Ec teacher). I would like to condsider the Family As Ecosystems Theory, but I'm just stuck. (Yes, this is for a paper... but I would like your input please.)

What could help the family and the child with ALD? The movie and the full-support systems of an IEP team.  Progressive neurological disorders, such as CP, are common in special education.  So are communication disorders, including forms of autism.  Depending on the stage of degeneration and the individual's manifestations a customized approach can be developed with the IEP team, including Language and Speech Specialist, Severe Disability Specialist (Special Ed. Teacher), and Augmentative and Alternative Communication Specialist.  These individuals and the students IEP can make specific recommendations for the student in a variety of specific settings, including general education classrooms.
