Question:

How can I help my client put the logo I designed into Word without having a white background?

I am a freelance graphic artist and created a logo for a local business. I gave them a high resolution version of it in jpeg format and plan to send them a disk of every format they may need. She works on Windows and wants to place the logo in Word but of course the jpeg gives it a white background. I saved an eps file with a transparent background so that the logo and words are free-floating but she doesn't know how to open the eps file. How can I help her find a way to put a version of the logo without a background into Word or another similar program? Is there another format I can save it in for her to use or another program I can suggest for her?

  1. I dont understand what program you use, but have you ever tried saving the image with no background as a png? I ask this because eps is not a normal windows base file. PNG is though which sounds like it should act just like your eps file.

  2. The only standard file format that can do transparent backgrounds are PNG, and GIF. Hopefully you use Illustrator to design these. Do a save as, and choose PNG under file type/format.

It'll give you a transparent background but her Word document file sizes will be HUGE. It isn't a good idea to use GIF because GIF are reserved for web optimized graphics.

EPS can't be opened unless you have vector editing software.

You need to make yourself very familiar with file formats and their uses if you want to make it as a freelance designer, otherwise it'll make clients think you are incapable of certain tasks. Years ago, all I did was research as well as trial and error. Getting my degree only taught me so much, the real world is very different. You'll get there.

  3. You need to save the jpeg with a transparent background.

Send me the picture, and I´ll return it with the job done. No cost

  4. Below is a link to a site that has a program to convert .eps files
