How can I help my computer run faster?

My computer is slow and I know there are a few things you can do to make it run faster. What can I do? Where are the computer geeks when I need them? Help!!!!!!

Try running the following 1st as it might just need a good clean.

I always recommend the following be stored on computers and install them myself on any I repair. If you are happy with your anti-virus ignore Avast.

When you have done all this and if it hasn't got any faster [I'd be surprised if it hasn't], email me and I'll send you some tweaks but let me know what exactly you want to be faster.

Avast Home Edition http://avast.com

Run a full scan once a month. I find this the best free anti-virus software

SUPERantispyware http://superantispyware.com

Update and run a full scan once a week.

Spybot Search and Destroy http://safer-networking.org

Update, Immunize and scan once a week.

ccleaner http://ccleaner.com

Run the Cleaner scan and remove all it finds

Run the Registry scan and fix all issues but repeat this until nothing is detected.

Run this daily.

Some people just prefer the Windows one but this is better.

Check that you don't need to defragment monthly and also run a Disk Cleanup monthly too.

usually upgrading the RAM will make a world of difference.  Add another Gigabyte and I guarantee your computer will perform like never before.

We do need some details but i can give a vague idea. RAM is what makes like double clicking an icon and it opening up go fast. You can buy a stick of RAM online or some place like walmart. The thing is that it depends on your motherboard and what it can handle. When i bought my comp it said it can upgrade to 2gb of RAM. I have 1gb which came with it and i plan on buying another. If you figure out those details it is very easy to install. Email me for directions on installing if you get that far. Or i'm sure you can youtube it, ask someone else, or i know on tigerdirect.com they show you a good installation video.On that website just browse RAM sticks then click on one and at the bottom they should have a installation video.

Well just get rid of the stuff you don't need and run a full system scan often (like once a week) so you know that there isn't going to be any virus's =D.

i'm no comp expert

but you can install programs off the internet that go through and delete all the stuff that's bad for your comp

like my comp was really slow when i had myspace IM

i took that off and now it runs slow every once in a while

some things that you could do is like go to google and type in virus killer or sumthin like that and it should work

k first of all i aint a geek but i do know some stuff bout dat. u can defrag your computer to delete unnecessary files. like empty folders and stuff dat are uselesss. delete as much files u can dat u dont need. the more files u have on ur computer, the less space you will have on ur hard drive and the less space u have on ur hard drive, the slower ur computer will be. also uninstall any programs u dont need or use. and check to see if there are any programs you dont want running in the background of your computer.

and btw next time u ask a question, dont add the "Where are the computer geeks when I need them?" thing. it really isnt necessary
