I wasn't sleepy before at all, now I can hardly get through the day. What are some simple ways I can treat this or make it better?

  1. Speak to your doctor.

It is a common side-effect (somnolence), and may not improve - some people end up dragging themselves around... in between falling asleep here, there and everywhere.

  2. You might want to consider taking the Prozac at night instead of the morning, this way you will fall asleep but it is ok. It will still last the next day. If this does not work you may need to try another drug. It's weird, Prozac did the complete opposite for me, I couldn't sleep when I took it so I started taking Effexor instead (SO MUCH BETTER!)

  3. Prozac is not necessarily a sedative like amitriptyline, so are you sure it is the Prozac or might it be an anticipated(placebo) effect ie because you take an antidepressant you EXPECT to feel sleepy.

Depression itself can make you sleepy, so you may wish to await a few more weeks before you blame it on the Prozac and observe if the Prozac improves your depression.

Also: do you take OTHER medication, which might be the reason for the sleepiness? Have you had bloodtests to for instance exclude anaemia and underactive thyroid?
