How can I help my job recycle?

I work in a federal government building. They waste so much paper! They throw away all the paper in with the rest of the trash. It's really disturbing. Is there anyone I can contact to get some recycle bins in there? Any info helps. Thanks

  1. Depends where you live to know which company to go to, but there will (hopefully) be a recycling company near you that will come and place cardboard recycle bins next to photocopiers, printers etc and little ones at people's desks, and then the cleaners you normally have take them to the recycling bin dumpster which is collected by the company. Do a search for recycling companies in your telephone directory and contact them for more details. They will probably make it quite easy for you because they get a resource for free.

It's great that you're wanting to tackle this, good luck!

  2. There is a recycling company named Abitibi who will place re-cycle dumsters at your work place for paper, including newspaper. Employees can bring material from home. The company empties the bins monthly and PAYS your employer a sum calculated on weight of the full bins. We had 5 placed at our church and they are full every month and the money goes to the parish.

  3. Locate an area of suggestion for recycables. You may have to offer to dispose of all that paper, but ask your most senior exectutive if you can set up a 'voluntary recycling area'. Print out a bunch of invitations (creativity a must) and personally hand them out to each employee inviting them to use the recycling process. An occational 'Thank You' might get those who think they are exempt to feel a bit guilty and join in. You might even find a few partners to help you in the process. Ultimatley the boss will see that it is important to the employees and he might actually DO something about it, himself!

(Paper Reduction Act..  What a joke!)
