What should I do? I am a single parent with three little kids. I work full time and my son is struggling in school big time. He is about to be held back. I am so worried about him. I could even lose custody if he fails. I am so worried. I help him with his homework but it’s not enough. He wont focus in class. He is failing math and science. What can I do?

He is in a large class. Last year he was an award winning student. He has entered in fourth grade this year and it has been an uphill battle.

  1. try takin some time out for your three kids they need to spend more time with u and try showin him some games and make up good games out of math amd science so that he gets interested. Try talkin with him and explain that its really important to focus on his studies explain those things! bi

  2. I am surprised that u haven't been address by his teachers with this sooner. They usually will offer u tutoring class for your child if he is doing this bad in more than one subject either bf or after school. Some of them will pull your child out for about 30 min to hr each day for help as well. I think u need to check with the school about this asap. I also think u need to talk to him to see what he is feeling. Maybe he is dealing with something he is scared to open up about. Something had to happen bad in his life to make him go from a "winning student" to where he is right now. As far as loosing custody of him, I have never heard that in my life and i don't think any Judge would allow that. U are not abusing your child in anyway (i hope) and u haven't been declared to be an unfit mother so i dont see that happening. I hope this helps!

  3. Why the heck would you lose custody of your child if he fails school? That makes no sense at all!!! If he was doing well last year there is prob something else going on. Addressing that issue should be your priority

  4. Perhaps your son has a learning disorder or he just needs a little extra help on his homework. I would suggest you talk to his teacher, see what he or she thinks is the problem and what is the recommended solution. You obviously care about your son, which I think is the most important thing.

    Good luck!

  5. i would suggest the best thing would be trying to teach ur kids with making the subjects more interesting. try making charts and paste them on walls and plus involve playing in studies. like use materials in maths and for science try drawing and explaing to ur child. thats what i do and it really works. try and create his room as his in preschool again

  6. Is your son worried about how he's doing at school? What does he say about it? It's so stressful being a working Mum but there's plenty of us out here facing similar worries.

Can you discuss his performance with his teachers, they might be able to suggest tips to help?

  7. If you have a computer, try computer game that will help him learn. I use Jump Start for both of my boys. I started with my oldest who is Autistic. They both love the games. Like now my oldest is in the 5th gr and my baby is in the 1st, so I'll buy 6th and 2nd gr games. My oldest is behind in reading and math, so he does 2nd and 3rd gr reading and 4th and 5th gr math. He has never been held back. The programs have progress reports you can print off that shows you how well your child is doing and what they need improvement on.  You can get them pretty much anywhere. I hope these work. Good luck.
