How can I help people to change to a sustainable future?

Question

I run an environment committee at my secondary school but am recieving little or no interest. What it your number one tip for inspring people?

Most girls have an inherent ability to be nurturing. Start with them. Show them all the beauty in the world and then show them how it is being destroyed. Hopefully you can affect them deeply - don't hold back - give it to them brutally, they can handle it and they will respond. Once you have them on board the guys will follow, it's a proven fact that most guys are interested in the environment and things like that for reasons that usually have to do with the hot chicks involved. For a school what is interesting in most places,where healthy food is an issue, is a school garden project growing vegetables.

But in the US you would have to grow  pop corn

There is a great collection of Nature films . the Attenborough series for example and strange days on planet earth ,

try showing these, to get across the interrelationships of Nature and Humans ,then go on with sustainability .

Its easier in Europe where people like Nature ,because they have lost so much.

In America is a big resistance ,the focus is more on exploitation and modernization,This is usual in religious countries.

Good luck you will need it if yahoo Answers is an example of public attitude,Love for Nature is very unpopular

and the future for humans on earth is not important for people who are anxious to get to  paradise which is supposed to be soo much better.

The best thing you can do is via educationing them (showing them how it can apply to their lifestyles) What are you currently have in practice at your school?

Go for something attractive, arrange few field trips to fell them the beauty of the nature, & how the people are interacting with environment,

I finished my Uni Degree in Enviro few years ago. After all the paper work, I realised the best way to teach people how to change and do better is to lead by example. So if you lead an environmentally friendly lifestyle, eventually this will rub off and influence those around you, they will also change. I have found the worst thing you can do is pester people, they will fight against you. Take the lead, those with a brain will follow eventually. All the best

have you ever seen the cookbook programs some schools run ?== think of your project in the same way give the kids in your class a flier dint invite the parents--just ask them for their ideas on what they think should be done and remember it a small first step we all start with-you might find that if they feel they are part of a book with their name mentioned they start to have some pride in the project--your class could start something that sweeps the nation---good luck:)
