I had a sore throat for three days and last night it turned into a cold overnight. I have a really stuffed up nose a bad cough and lots of mucus that comes up with it. I've been drinking lots of hot Green Tea and trying to sleep. Last night I took two Tylenol PM's and a benedryl this morning but nothing seems to be helping. What else can I do. My cold just seems to be getting worse. Please help me!

  1. Hey June

Don't get bugged. What you need is just a teaspoon of Brandy with hot milk or hot water. Take it and go to bed. You'll feel much better and repeat it for 2-3 days and the cold will disappear.

In India the medicine prescribed for sore throat is Erythromycin  derivatives. Don't know what they are called in your country. You can consult the doctor for that.

  2. Sweetie, if you get a fever, see the doctor.

It's tough but youve got to ride it out. To make yourself comfortable, (& DO stay home. No work or school) favorite pajamas, books or movies. Stay warm

Now, green tea is good. Some echinacea helps too. For your sore throat, try gargling with warm salt water. And I know this sounds gross, but try to inhale some through you nose & spit it out. The warm, salted water will soothe your throat. It'll also help clear your nose. Do it every couple of hours.

And remember those old movies with a man holding his head over a pot of steaming water with a towel draped obver his head? Try it - it really helps? Just boil some water, put it on a plate on a table & put your face over it, not too close, & inhale the steam for a few minutes.

Keep sipping water or tea all day to keep your throat moist. And your favorite cough drops.

From the drug store, Nyquil works best. Relaxes you & lets you rest. Or one of the expectorant cough syrups from what you said.

And when you go to bed tonight, take an extra pillow & keep your head elevated. This will keep the mucus from flowing into your throat.

    Take care of yourself, honey.
