Sorry, I'm not a rabid crusader for spending hours sorting through trash for paper/plastic/aluminum/glass. Not everyone has the time to be a full-time environmentalist. But I'd still like to help out wherever I can.

  1. Controlling the way you shop is the most convent way to help the environment.Produce and flowers grown locally are much better choices for the environment and purchasing them will cause no inconvenience what so ever + they taste better.Replacing all old light bulbs with those new energy efficient one is a big deal and will save Lot's of money.Recycle all the obvious stuff and if one dam thing gets through don't worry about it.Back to shopping anything you buy made in the USA is way better than imported.

  2. its actually not that hard and can save you money1)wash laundry in cold water using cold water made detergents and wash full loads or set washer water levels according.2)hang clothes to dry especially jeans and sweat shirts3)use your blue box3)buy a tote or take plastic bags with you when you do groceries4)in winter turn the thermostat down 3 degrees in summer turn AC up 5 degrees5)turn lights off in rooms your not in ,replace burnt light bulbs with new CFL bulbs6)If possible take subway or bus to work saves gas and parking costs7)don't litter toss your garbage into a garbage can when your out for a walk or driving8)its the little things that can add up

  3. Recyceling is the easiest way to help, but only if your community has a program.  Have separate bins for the recycelables and one for regular trsh.  Most community programs don't need you to be overly anal about separation.  If you don't have such a program start by using enviromentaly cleaning products (Target has a wonderful line), be conscious of the post consumer numbers on the items you buy and cut down on water and electrisity in your home by not having all your lights on in rooms you are not in or turn off the water while you brush your teeth.

  4. Whatever saves money is probably also saving the environment. Driving a fuel efficient car will definitely save you money and help the environment for example. Using energy efficient appliances will do that too. You don't need to just replace all your appliances; but when one needs replacing anyway, shop with energy efficiency in mind. You may pay more for the appliance but in the long run you will save on your energy bills.

  5. Well you can change your attitude for a start !!!! If you think it's gonna be easy being green, then youll have to change your perspective on it. Lazy ways to be green:

Drive slow, no fast starts, no sudden stops (emergencies excepted)

Use recycled paper (loo paper, printer paper etc)

eat organic, home grown farm shop food

Read magazines and newspapers in the library

Get your hair cut every 8 weeks, not six

drink in the bar, don't bring cans or wine home

plug everything into extension plugs, switch this off at the wall

switch off your mobile charger when the phone is done

Don't go to the gym, walk or cycle to work - free exercise & you are not responsible for their carbon emissions

listen to the music/watch tv via your pc, not the radio or tv

Eat less if you are on the larger size

    xxxhope this helps
