Question:

How can I help the underpriveleged kids in the inner city build better lives for themselves?

I have just moved to Bristol (England). I'm still finding my feet here but have been told there are some rougher areas that I should watch out for.

If Bristol has a large population of underpriveleged youths I'd love to help them try to build better lives for themselves. The thing is I'm only 22 myself and have no experience of qualifications in youth work or volunteering, and I can't take time off my day job to study at college. What can I do? Do I even have to belong to an organisation or can I just go out on to the streets as an individual?

Thanks!

  1. you can go as an individual

    buy them lunch etc.

  2. Please join an organisation, look in yello pages etc at charity's or voluntary sector organisations.Dont roam the streets, ignore those prats who tell you to do this you may end up hurt.

Volunteering can be done in the eves and weekends, and if you join an organisation, Barnardos, NCH or Samaritans, they will train you up and support you, go for it and good luck

  3. I wouldn't go out on the streets as an individual; people will think you are weird.  The best way to help, is to contact a youth work agency and offer yourself as a volunteer.  They will grab you with both hands and it will be good experience for you.

  4. you can give money to me ! because i am what you describe and i would love money to build a better life!

  5. Many places in local papers advertise for part time youth workers with no experience necesary so u could look into this or.. if you are prepared to do it voluntary look on a volunteering site and go through it this way.

    Good luck

  6. You can't build a better life for them - you can only motivate them to build a better life for themselves.
