I have a black bookcase in my room, and I have a bunch of bright yellow books in it. I really want to keep the books in there, but they're so bright and ugly that it distracts from the room. How can I hide them without building onto the bookshelf?

  1. The simplest solution is to get some inexpensive book covers.

If the books are over-sized and standard book covers won't fit, you can always make some.

  2. Make jackets for the books out of whatever color paper you want them to be - you could use gift wrap for this.

  3. I made myself some book covers not too long ago. I went to a wallpaper store and found some nice end of roll cheap wallpaper. Then I wallpapered the outside (cover) of the books. It looks nice, the only bummer is I have to open the book to figure out which book is which.

Maybe you can find some suitable baskets to put the books in- it woul dhide the books and still keep them handy without doing anything to the books themselves. Or try using some nice craft paper to cover the books- just fold the paper around the cover and tape it in place. Then with a marker write the title on the cover spine.

  4. cover the books with uniform looking book covers in a neutral color like slate gray or a color you like,

you can get fade-proof acid free paper at

a craft store (like hobby lobby Michael'sels)

or teacher supply school (classroom connection),

or an engineering supply store(triangle a&e),

    or office supply store(office depot).

Use a computer to print the name of the book on the binding,

    or write it in calligraphy.

  5. You could buy book covers.
