How can I hit the ball higher with my long irons and 3 wood?

I currently have a nice ball flight on my scoring irons and mid irons (pretty much a 6 iron and up) but my 5,4,3 irons and 3 wood are always hit very low. To give you some numbers, I hit my 3 iron about 200 yards and 3 wood about 225-235, but over 35 yards of that is roll if not more. Please help!

  1. You must be a strong hitter of the golf ball, judging from your distances you've quoted. To get your golf ball flight trajectory higher you need to place your ball closer than usual more towards your left foot at address. Then on the downswing follow through your swing as usual. Do not come down too fast when you're at the top, only at impact.

  2. Whats your handicap? plus the distances you mention aren't all that bad your only a club behind myself and my playing partners and we play for a living!!!!!!! plus your distances should be measured from where the ball lands and not after roll. Your carry distance is what you need to learn so you wont come up short if the ground is soft or on a slight hill. also what is the spec on your shafts and your swing speed. these are questions before we even get to your swing. oh and what style of club are you playing. if you can edit your question to include these i may be able to give a more accurate answer.

  3. Place your stance so that the ball will be more towards the target. Further left of the center of your body than a 7 iron but right of where you'd put your 3 or 5 wood. You'll try to hit on the upswing, but don't change your swing too much, as it would result in topping the ball or hitting it thin. Remember to transfer your weight. Hope this helps.

  4. If I knew that I would open a golf school and become wealthy.

  5. I dont agree that you should move the ball more forward (towards the target).  you will hit the ball fat or encourage a slice.

To get the ball "up" you must hit "down" ie hit the ball first and take a nice long (not too deep) divot.  The ball should be inside the left heel for mid irons.

  6. Focus on striking down on the ball with irons and woods. Keep ball close to center of your stance. This works for me and I have a 4 handicap.

  7. Move back from the ball slightly - by which I mean move to the right of the ball (if you hit righty).  By the placing the ball a touch left of center, you'll hit the ball on the upswing rather than the downswing.  this should give you more height.  However, don't let up on your swing speed because this will result in slices and less distance on your shots.

  8. Don't change a thing about your stance and swing....if it ain't broke.......

Get some weight tape from a component store and put it on the bottom of the irons you want to hit higher.  Worked for me, it should work for you.
