  1. You have to measure the leaf. Notice the shape of the leaf (ovate, cordate, etc.). Observe the edges of the leaf (toothed or untoothed). Whether the leaves are opposite each other on the stem (straight across from each other), or alternating, and so on.


  2. Plants are classified according to the structure and function of their flowers. They are essential for accurate identification, although species with distinctive leaves may be assigned to genera fairly safely. Post a pic if you can and someone may recognise your weed.

  3. I would do a net search for weeds common to your area and go from there. Some weeds never really have flowers.
