  1. This is a free, great, fun site for 5 year olds:

  2. reead english news paper daily

  3. my parents are mexicans and when they first arrived they knew no english so when me and my sister where small they made us sit in front of the television set to watch educational videos like barney and disney movies and look at me now and you will think that i am from here.

  4. I strlongly recommend getting several DVDs of your child's favorite TV show in English. Also, Sesame Street is an excellent English tutor for this age group.

  5. use it all the time and make them read and write it also

  6. Language and Thinking for Young Children by Ruth Beechick is an excellent book.

You can find a used copy at Amazon for less than $1.00 plus shipping.

  7. Read, read, read!  Online, library, buy books or ask for her presents from family/friends to be aussie books.

  8. The best way to improve English is to use it all the time. If there's  nobody to talk to, then let her watch Disney Channel or Sesame Street (any educational cartoons). She'll pick up on the correct accent and learn new words too!

  9. use the English language at home -she will keep it up if you speak it at home - and the Japanese at school - this will be a wonderful opportunity for your daughter.  Enjoy and allow her to learn both languages - wonderful.  Not many children get an opportunity like this.

  10. Phonemic awareness, but include filler words to make a complete sentence statement. It helps to have who?, did what , why?, when?, and where? answers in identifying objects. Have your 5 yr old repeat the sentence you tell her when identifying objects. Later you can add adjectives and adverbs to your 5 "W" statements. Pictures for categorizing and grouping information in the form of mind maps help as well with comprehension.
