Question:

How can I improve each pages of my art sketchbook?

The whole theme of our project is about "Natural Forms" but mostly about flower and leaves, anything that has something to do with plants. I'm also doing some bag designs and artists' studies such as sharon galli and van gogh. I also have to write information of how would i reflect my flower drawings and study to them. ~sigh~ But the only thing that I want to ask to anyone is How could I decorate or design the layout of the pages and how to make it look presentable to the examiners? Any advices or materials that I can just find at home to decorate my sketchbook's pages? But I'm really short on cash now, and I don't want to bother my mom anymore. Because she's very busy and the only one who supports us. I don't want to ask anything more from her even just this holiday. Please I need your help.......

  2. to imprrove your art work... i suggest you burn it.

  3. The most beautiful and intriguing botanical sketchbooks I have seen have notations in the margins.  Your notations could be about the thing you have drawn, or they could be about the process of drawing them.

Here is an excellent example of a working sketchbook:  http://farm1.static.flickr.com/43/124090...

    and another . . . http://watercolorblog.artistsnetwork.com...

    and another . . . http://billsharp.files.wordpress.com/200...

Remember to draw large, filling the pages if you can. . . . and use color if allowed. Treat the sketchbook as something you will use in the future when you want to revisit somewhere yo have been or something you have seen (and drawn) before!

  4. try using as many different materials as you can, (just have a look around your house or garden) this'll get you alot of extra points, make each page exciting and fill it with lots of information.

  5. Look carefully at your chosen subject and very simply try to explain the lines, shapes, forms, structures, patterns, textures and colours in each of your drawings/studies.It is the quality of the work that will shine through, not the amount of money you have thrown at your studies.Leonardo Da Vinci's sketchbooks are simple working studies of everything that he saw. They are full of all sorts of fascinating details, littered into every little bit of space on every page.

  6. Just do pretty doodles in the margins. Make it look like it is not a rushed piece of work but something you have lavished alot of attention on over the two years. For example, you coudl have a page with a photo of your painting at the top and some writing underneath. Then in the margins you could sketch ideas for extra things you might put in your painting and annotate them. Use pencil crayons - this contrasts with the pen. Or you could have a page with pictures of work by another artist and you could try to sketch their work yourself. If your pictures are a coulour theme, try colouring the page in that colour. Or do a rainbow pattern or something.

  7. for my natural form i directed it into flowers

i stuck in alow of natural pressed flowers then slowly progressed onto other plant life

stick in natural stuff relating to the project your doing to fill in blank space

use photocopies to fill in black space

draw in patterns in the backround linked with the texture of the natural form in that page in a thick heavy standing out medium or whatever medium fits in with that page

dont go over board, just make it so its right

i also made a page jsut dedicated to the fowers themselves and drew abox for eachone water coloured them in black using fading techniques and put a flower in each one like an exhibition

make the real stuff the art aswell as just using drawings

i used alot of water colour

try mixing in mud with the paint   or seeds in with the paint

adding glue to the paint whilst doing this helps alot

    use seed patterns as backgrounds

    remember

art doesnt have to be neat

    nature has ordered chaos

    try reflecting this somehow

write the imformation around the drawing in scrawly writing as though it has been scrawled in a hurry

this does take practice as to make it not look rubbish so practice on some spare paper

use paper you see that has flower print on if it reflects on it

try taking some photos and printing them of and collaging

these are a few ideas, hope i helped

they certainly got me a good mark for mine

  8. You could use actual plants and try to reflect emotions with different colours or textures...and thats free!..um you can use just normal pencil and use shading and different pressures. Mayb you could lay it out in a sequence of emotions in van gogh... hmmm. look in to his paintings aswell. Hope this gives you some ideas. Camilla

  9. when i was doing my art courses i couldnt stand other people who just left so many white spaces on every page!

theres NO NEED to do that its art!!

dw too much about making it presentable to the examiners as long as ideas are logically placed on the same page it doesnt matter, be as creative as possible! firstly lightly brush the whole page with very watery paints to get rid of any white! then build upon it stick things down write things in the shape of a flower of something its really about how creatively you present it aswell as what you put in.

you truly dont need to use every material under the sun its HOW you use them. try painting your own version of a famous picture, sketch it in blacknwhite, use colouring pencils or crayons, do a collage out of newspapers, make a collage out of magazine pictures, any old bits of card or cloth you have lying around cut a shape and stick it in i dunno USE YOUR IMAGINATION THERES SO MUCH YOU CAN DOO!
